Return of Import Face Off | Aug 25 | Gateway

Import Face Off is just a couple of weeks away. Drifting will be on the main events lot. Our staff are GMP vets so if any of you dudes need help or pointers feel free to ask for it. This will be a sick event, lots of seat time.

We've prepped for groups, as we have a 65 car cap. This will help keep the day flowing and make sure everyone gets an equal amount of seat time, as well as down time to make repairs, cool down, and change wheels. Of course groups are subject to change but we will have the finalized lists at drivers meeting in the am. *You may get moved through out the day, but that will be at the discretion of Drift Staff.

Schedule:

09:45 Drivers Meeting
10:00 Group A
11:00 Group B

*Import Face Off came to Gateway Motorsports Park for the first time last year and partnered with DriftSTL to incorporate drifting into its drag and car show. They were so stoked with the outcome of that event that they have returned to Gateway and asked us manage drifting from ticketing and promotion, to onsite event management. We are happy to be here and ready to party.

MDU ProAM Round 2, July 13

Head to Gateway Motorsports Park, Saturday July 13 to watch the MDU/DriftSTL Formula D Pro*Am Drifting Competition. Held on one of the fastest and most coveted race tracks in the Midwest, this is the second round of the Midwest Formula D Pro*AM Series. Drivers will shred tires, door to door at speeds over 100mph sideways.

This is a competition round of drifting in the Formula D Pro*Am series where driver are competing for their Formula Drift Professional License, which will allow them to compete in the FD Professional Drift Series. Competition Drifting is a judged motorsport. Two cars will drive two heats, head to head, through a series of corners and will be judged on essential criteria. Performance is assessed and points are awarded. The winning driver with the most points advances through a bracket system towards the podium.

General Admission is just $15 at the gate and the action starts at 10am.

Judging Criteria
Line - Drivers are required hold the desired (or proposed) racing line and meet all [clipping points] apex's, and transition through corner changes in control. In most cases a tighter line will yield higher points.

Speed - Speed is a bi-product but can become a deciding factor. A loss of speed can result in a loss of points during a heat, or allow room for passing which would result in a loss.

Angle - The angle at which a driver attacks a corner, while relative to the car and it's driver, is the basic component of drifting, and the most heavily judged. The driver aims to have the car at its most extreme angle when entering a corner, or passing through an apex or "clipping point". A loss in drift angle will result in a loss of points and achieving no angle through a corner would result in a zero.

Style: - The style of a driver is judged by overall presentation, aggressiveness and flow of the run. Each judge will have 10 points to give for each run presented.

SPECTATORS:
General Admission is just $15
Kids under 12 free

DRIVERS:
All competition drivers are expected to drive the complete Midwest Drift Union season to earn the necessary points. The season has been spread out so that every driver can make each and every event, including the MDU Finals at Street Life Tour. The top placing driver(s) of the series will be rewarded with a Formula Drift Professional License. If you are not at the morning drivers meeting you will not be able to drive until the second half of the day, no questions asked.

Drivers Online Entry: $150.00 (Ends 6/31)

Drivers Gate Entry: $200 (if not sold out)

IFO Kil-Kare Pics

Kilkare Speedway was packed Sunday, with cars of all caliber. The proud few who showed up to run the banks of the oval got plenty of seat time and a rad day of shredding with their friends.

Mike Morey of Downshift Photos rolled through. Here are some shots from the day.

Cody Grimms 800hp* 2j was on point all day, initiating early on the banks.

This was James Blair's first time running the speedway and killed it all day, hot lapping till his tires were exhausted.
